Materials and Care

Each piece is developed through an iterative process informed by observation of botanical and structural forms.

Process

Hand-cut work:
Hand-cut, engraved and embossed/debossed from sterling silver.
The design is hand-cut from sterling silver, rather than etched. Each piece is made entirely by hand, creating a unique piece.

Etched work:
Etched using traditional metalworking techniques, hand-finished.
The design is defined through etching, which cuts and surface-patterns the metal using traditional metalworking techniques. This approach allows for precise patterning alongside the nuances of hand finishing.

Colour detail:
Pigment is selectively applied to recessed etched or engraved areas to emphasise surface pattern and tonal contrast.
Additional colour variation may be formed through the controlled heating of metal surfaces, producing naturally occurring oxide tones. Copper may shift from pink through brown to black, while stainless steel may develop blue, bronze and brown tonal variations.

Materials and Care

Sterling silver will naturally oxidise over time. Sterling silver can be gently polished to restore brightness, or allowed to develop a patina through wear.

Etched brass and copper are sealed to control the oxidation process. This sealant wears slowly over time, allowing the metal to develop a natural patina. However, if a more polished rather than time-worn finish is desired, the remaining sealant can be removed with fine emery paper and then polished.

Stainless steel does not oxidise and will retain its surface finish over time. If required, the surface can be cleaned with warm water and mild detergent. Rinse, then dry thoroughly with a soft cloth.
